Position Overview

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Sloan School of Management is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to serve as a Digital Learning Fellow. The Fellow will develop course curricula for a set of modules for a bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship and Management designed for an African audience.

The role will draw on existing MIT courses available through MITx Online and Sloan, as well as existing OpenEdX and Canvas platforms.

About the Role

The Digital Learning Fellow will work with Professors Suri and Van der Hilst, educational staff at MIT, and faculty at partner institutions in Africa to develop online courses.

Course development will include learning objectives, detailed content outlines, measurable outcomes, interactive activities, engaging video content, and discussion forums.

Some content creation will take place in studios in West Africa. The position therefore requires travel and collaboration with local creatives.

Responsibilities

The Postdoctoral Associate will:

  • Develop curricula for modules within a bachelor’s degree in Entrepreneurship and Management.
  • Leverage existing MIT courses on MITx Online, Sloan, OpenEdX, and Canvas.
  • Collaborate with MIT faculty and educational staff and faculty at partner institutions in Africa.
  • Develop learning objectives, detailed content outlines, and measurable learning outcomes.
  • Create interactive activities, video content, and discussion forums.
  • Develop assessment systems for some existing Sloan courses.
  • Help explore how artificial intelligence can be used in online education.
  • Collaborate with local creatives during content production in West Africa.
  • Develop and launch courses on time, within budget, and according to MIT quality standards.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • An advanced degree (Ph.D. or graduate level) in applied entrepreneurship, management, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant teaching experience for college-level courses; experience as a teaching assistant may qualify.
  • Demonstrated experience as an instructional designer or course developer.
  • A proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practices, current research, and innovations in digital teaching and learning in higher education.
  • Strong project management, time management, and communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A desire to learn new technical skills.
  • Proficiency with Python, JavaScript, XML, CSS, and LaTeX.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience creating plots and 3D interactive images in Mathematica, MATLAB, or Python.
  • Ties to Africa or experience on the continent, given the African context of the content and local course production.
  • Experience using Adobe tools and video-editing software, including Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere.

Salary and Appointment

The salary range is $73,308–$90,000 per year.

This is a full-time, one-year position, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding and satisfactory performance.

Visa sponsorship is not available.
