The DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University invites applications for a full-time, tenured faculty position in its Finance and Business Economics Area at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor.
The successful candidate will hold the CIBC Chair in Financial Markets, an appointment made for an initial five-year term, with the possibility of renewal for additional terms.
Beginning July 1, 2027, the position combines research in financial economics with teaching, graduate student supervision, and academic service.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to the School's research, teaching, and service activities.
Research and Scholarship
- Conduct research in financial economics and publish findings in high-quality academic journals.
- Participate in prominent national and international academic conferences.
- Actively pursue research grants and external research funding.
- Promote research collaboration within the academic community.
- Supervise students in their areas of expertise.
Teaching and Academic Programs
- Contribute to the DeGroote School of Business's academic programs at its Hamilton and neighbouring Burlington locations.
- Demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence.
- Support graduate student supervision and academic development.
Academic Service and Engagement
- Participate in the School's academic service activities.
- Support initiatives involving the business community, academic institutions, and other external stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Doctoral Degree: A PhD in Finance, Financial Economics, or another finance-related field from a reputable institution.
- Research Record: Evidence of a strong scholarly record, including publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals.
- Research Funding: A demonstrated record of acquiring research funding.
- Teaching Excellence: A demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching.
- Graduate Supervision: A demonstrated commitment to supervising graduate students.
Salary and Compensation
The starting salary will be not less than $116,663.
The final salary will be determined based on academic rank, discipline, experience, and qualifications.
Faculty salaries progress through McMaster University's Career Progress/Merit Plan. Average faculty salaries by rank and Faculty for previous academic years are also available through the University.
About the DeGroote School of Business
The DeGroote School of Business is part of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
Its Finance and Business Economics Area is the largest of the School's eight academic areas and is committed to excellence in research and teaching.

- Letter of Application and Curriculum Vitae: Include a description of how career interruptions have affected research productivity, if applicable, and a statement of Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status.
- Research Statement: Include a selection of research work, such as published articles and/or working papers.
- Teaching Statement: Describe teaching interests and philosophy, including evidence of teaching effectiveness and graduate student supervision.
- Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Statement: Provide a brief statement, no longer than two pages, describing past or planned contributions to equity, diversity, inclusion, or inclusive excellence in teaching, research, or service within higher education, community-based, or other professional settings.
- Referees: Provide the names of at least three referees.
Letters of reference are not required and will not be reviewed during the initial application stage. The Finance and Business Economics Area will request recommendation letters from referees at later stages of the selection process.
