About the Role

The Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley invites applications for an Associate or Full Adjunct Professor to serve as Faculty Director of the Master of Financial Engineering (MFE) program.

This senior faculty role combines teaching, applied research, and academic leadership. It is ideal for candidates with deep industry experience in finance and strong expertise in quantitative methods, data science, machine learning, or AI.

The MFE program prepares students for high-impact careers in finance, technology, and quantitative investing—areas not fully covered by traditional MBA or PhD programs.

This is a Haas-funded position.


Salary & Appointment Details

  • Associate Adjunct Professor (full-time equivalent): USD $128,800 – $150,700
  • Full Adjunct Professor (full-time equivalent): USD $144,300 – $232,100
  • Salary is based on UC academic salary scales and commensurate with experience
  • Appointment may range from part-time to full-time

Key Academic Responsibilities

Teaching

  • Teach graduate-level MFE courses in areas such as:
    • Investments and financial markets
    • Security valuation
    • Data science and machine learning
    • Deep learning for finance
    • Numerical and simulation methods used in industry

Advising & Mentoring

  • Advise MFE students on:
    • Industry-sponsored projects
    • Career development
    • Independent studies and applied research

Research & Applied Projects

  • Supervise and coordinate:
    • Industry research projects
    • Applied finance research
    • Independent study research
  • Publish industry-oriented research
  • Represent the program at professional conferences (e.g., Journal of Investment Management Conference)

Faculty Director Responsibilities

As Faculty Director, you will provide strategic leadership for the MFE program, including:

  • Program Leadership
    • Oversee admissions, program events, and strategic initiatives
    • Support fundraising and research grant activity
  • Industry Engagement
    • Build and manage partnerships with:
      • Financial firms
      • Alumni
      • Hiring organizations
  • Career Placement
    • Ensure strong internship and full-time placement outcomes for students
  • Service & Governance
    • Serve on department and school committees as needed
