About the Position

Arabian Gulf University (AGU) invites applications for a Professor / Associate Professor in Financial Economics and Fintech in Manama, Bahrain.

This full-time faculty position is suited to an experienced academic with strong teaching and research skills in financial economics, finance, fintech, and related quantitative fields.

The successful candidate will teach graduate students, supervise research, publish in leading academic journals, and help develop academic programs. The role also offers opportunities to work with financial institutions and research partners.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach and coordinate graduate courses in Fintech, Financial Economics, Corporate Finance, Financial Management, Financial Markets and Institutions, International Finance, and Financial Econometrics.
  • Supervise master's theses and PhD dissertations.
  • Conduct high-quality research and publish in recognized international journals indexed in Scopus and Web of Science.
  • Develop and update curricula to reflect new developments in financial economics and financial technology.
  • Support academic accreditation and quality assurance activities.
  • Serve on program, department, college, and university committees.
  • Work with other faculty members on teaching, research, and academic initiatives.
  • Build research partnerships with local and international institutions.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • A PhD in Financial Economics, Finance, Economics, or a closely related field from an accredited university.
  • A strong research record, including at least 10 published research papers in Q1 or Q2 journals in Financial Economics.
  • Proven experience teaching graduate-level courses.
  • Experience supervising graduate students.
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Knowledge of academic accreditation and quality assurance processes.
  • Experience in research collaboration or consulting with financial institutions, public-sector organizations, or international organizations.

Financial Economics and Quantitative Skills

Candidates should be able to:

  • Design and estimate econometric models for financial and macroeconomic analysis.
  • Apply quantitative and empirical methods to financial decision-making.
  • Analyze financial and economic data.
  • Connect research findings with strategic and policy decisions.

These skills are especially important for research and teaching that bridge traditional finance, financial economics, econometrics, and emerging fintech applications.

Preferred Experience

Strong candidates may also have:

  • A record of securing research grants or funded research projects.
  • Professional experience with financial institutions, central banks, or regulatory authorities.
  • Experience teaching in blended or online learning environments.
  • Strong skills using educational technology and Learning Management Systems (LMS).
