Position Overview

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) (HKUST(GZ)) invites applications for multiple faculty positions in its Data Science and Analytics (DSA) Thrust within the Information Hub.

Appointments are available at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Professor ranks.

The DSA Thrust brings together statistics, machine learning, optimization, computer science, and related techniques to advance data science and analytics. Its work also focuses on applying these methods to real-world problems and societal needs.

Research Areas

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree and work in one or more areas related to the Data Science and Analytics Thrust.

Requirements vary by academic rank:

• Assistant Professor: Applicants for tenure-track Assistant Professor positions should demonstrate strong research and teaching potential.
• Associate Professor: Applicants should have a proven record in research, teaching, student supervision, and funding.
• Professor: Applicants should have world-class academic achievements, international academic leadership, and an established track record in teaching, student supervision, and funding.

Appointment Terms

All posts are tenure-track appointments in the Chinese mainland and will be offered by HKUST(GZ) in accordance with local employment laws and regulations.

Appointments at the Professor rank and some Associate Professor positions will be made on a substantive basis with tenure.

Initial appointments to other tenure-track faculty ranks will be made on a fixed-term contract of up to six years.

Formally established in June 2022, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou) is a cooperatively-run university between the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

HKUST(GZ) uses a cross-disciplinary academic structure organized around “Hubs” and “Thrusts” rather than conventional schools and departments. This structure is designed to support cross-disciplinary integration and the development of emerging and frontier disciplines.

The Data Science and Analytics Thrust is an academic department within the university's Information Hub.
