Position Overview

The University of Hong Kong invites applications for several appointments as Tenure-Track Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor in Finance in the Faculty of Business and Economics (Ref. 537060).

The appointments are expected to commence on July 1, 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Appointments will be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the end of a second three-year fixed-term contract. Exceptionally outstanding candidates at the Professor or Associate Professor level may be considered for appointment on tenure terms.

About the Finance Area

The Faculty's Area of Finance has 26 research-active faculty members and runs a weekly seminar series.

Since 2021, faculty members in the Area have published 39 papers in the Journal of Finance (JF), Journal of Financial Economics (JFE), and Review of Financial Studies (RFS). Based on these three journals, the Area is ranked Top 15 worldwide and No. 1 in Asia in the UT Dallas Business School Ranking.

Teaching, research, and professional activities are conducted in English.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Teach in undergraduate and/or graduate degree programs.
  • Conduct high-quality scholarly research.
  • Maintain an active research agenda.
  • Contribute to teaching and service.
  • Provide leadership and service within the Faculty and the University, as applicable to the appointment.

Qualifications

Applicants should:

  • Hold a Ph.D. in Finance or a related area.
  • Be able to teach undergraduate and/or graduate degree programs.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to high-quality scholarly research, teaching, and service.

All fields of finance will be considered.

Applicants seeking appointment at the Professor level should have a proven record of high-quality scholarship and teaching.

Salary and Benefits

The University will offer a highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience, together with:

  • Annual leave.
  • Medical benefits.
  • A contract-end gratuity.
  • University contributions to a retirement benefits scheme, with the contract-end gratuity and University contribution totaling up to 15% of basic salary.
  • Housing benefits, as applicable.

At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income.
