The School of Business Studies (SBS) at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in Karachi, Pakistan, invites applications for Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Full Professor positions across several business disciplines.

Position Overview

SBS is seeking candidates with strong research and teaching potential. The positions are essentially permanent, full-time appointments. However, exceptional candidates who cannot commit to a long-term appointment may be considered for short-term or fractional contracts (.5 FTE), including arrangements such as one semester per year with IBA.

Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s credentials and academic rank and will be in line with international market rates for such positions.

Faculty Positions and Areas of Specialization

Assistant/Associate/Full Professors in Management

Candidates from all areas of Management are encouraged to apply. The Management department is particularly interested in candidates specializing in:

  • Strategy
  • Human Resource Management
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Human Resource Analytics

Assistant/Associate/Full Professors in Business Analytics

Candidates should have demonstrated expertise, teaching credentials, or practical experience in Business Analytics.

Ideal candidates should have proficiency or familiarity with:

  • Data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI
  • Python or R for machine learning
  • SQL for data management

Faculty members in these specializations are expected to introduce new courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels within SBS. Candidates should have a solid foundation in business studies and the technological skills needed to impart these competencies effectively to students.

Assistant/Associate/Full Professors in Marketing

Candidates from all areas of Marketing are encouraged to apply. The Marketing department is particularly interested in candidates specializing in:

  • Marketing Analytics
  • Digital Marketing
  • E-Commerce

Candidates specializing in Sports Marketing or with a strong understanding of Consumer Behavior are also highly encouraged to apply.

Assistant/Associate/Full Professors in Finance

Candidates from all areas of Finance are encouraged to apply. Areas of particular interest include:

Assistant/Associate/Full Professors in Accounting

Candidates from all areas of Accounting are encouraged to apply. The Accounting department is particularly interested in candidates specializing in:

  • IFRS
  • International Auditing and Assurance Standards
  • Forensic Accounting
  • Environmental Accounting
  • Accounting for the Public Sector

Candidates who have passed some examinations of a professional accounting body, in addition to holding a terminal doctorate degree in Accounting, will be given preference.

Assistant/Associate/Full Professors in Business Economics

Candidates specializing in Business Economics will develop, prepare, and teach courses including:

  • Microeconomics
  • Managerial Economics
  • International Economics

Courses will focus primarily on external economic factors and their influence on business decisions, including changes in industry regulation or shifts in raw-material prices.

Assistant/Associate/Full Professors in Healthcare Management

Candidates with a PhD in Healthcare Management or related disciplines are encouraged to apply.

SBS aims to start a specialized master’s degree in Healthcare Management. Candidates with an undergraduate degree in medicine and/or experience in the healthcare industry—including hospitals, the pharmaceutical industry, and related fields—will be preferred.

The ideal candidate would play a pivotal role in the design and launch of the degree program.

Assistant/Associate/Full Professors in Entrepreneurship

SBS invites candidates who can teach foundation courses in Entrepreneurship as well as specialized electives in areas such as:

  • Venture Creation
  • Startup Ecosystems
  • Innovation Management
  • Entrepreneurial Finance
  • Scaling New Ventures

Applicants with prior entrepreneurial experience, including founding or working in startups, are highly encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

In general, candidates applying across the above disciplines should meet the following criteria:

  • A PhD from a leading and world-renowned institution, preferably an AACSB-accredited institution, is encouraged.
  • Candidates with a DBA may also be considered for some positions.
  • IBA prefers candidates who earned their doctorate through a full-time residential program. Candidates who earned their degree online or through a split-PhD model are not encouraged to apply.
  • Research credentials are an important factor, but candidates are evaluated on their holistic profile, including the stature of their undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral institutions, as well as teaching skills and cultural fit with IBA.
  • Candidates for Assistant Professor positions should demonstrate the ability to publish in top-ranked international journals.
  • Candidates for Associate Professor positions should have an established record of publications in leading journals in their respective disciplines.
  • Evidence of excellence in teaching is required in the form of student evaluations.
  • Fluency in English is required.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Lead the development of courses in their respective disciplines and use innovative and contemporary teaching methods.
  • Undertake nationally and internationally recognized research and publish in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals.
  • Engage in research-led teaching to keep students and faculty informed about emerging trends.
  • Actively engage in all areas of faculty life.

These are essentially permanent, full-time positions, although exceptional candidates may be considered for short-term or fractional contracts (.5 FTE).
