The Department of Business Analytics and Statistics at the Haslam College of Business, University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in business analytics with a focus on applied artificial intelligence (AI) or machine learning (ML). This faculty opening begins August 2026. Required Qualifications
Candidates must have a completed doctorate in Information Systems, Operations Research, Computer Science (AI/ML), or a related field with a business background or clear business applications. ABD applicants will be considered if they complete their doctorate before the start date. The strongest applicants will demonstrate the ability to produce research for leading academic journals and show potential as excellent teachers.
Preferred Qualifications & Responsibilities
We welcome scholars ready to contribute to graduate and executive education programs, such as the MS in Business Analytics (MSBA), Executive MBA in Healthcare or Strategic Leadership, Physicians Executive MBA, and Aerospace and Defense MBA. Duties include:

The Department of Business Analytics and Statistics is one of seven departments within the Haslam College of Business. We offer bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD degrees in Business Analytics and lead the university’s Intercollegiate Graduate Statistics and Data Science Program. Our MSBA program won the 2018 INFORMS Smith Prize. Faculty work closely with businesses to solve real-world challenges, and many hold editorial roles at leading journals and have received honors such as the Edelman Award and the Wagner Prize.
