Position Overview

Akita International University (AIU) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Management and Entrepreneurship in the Faculty of International Liberal Arts. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor, with an ideal start date of April 1, 2027, subject to negotiation.

The successful candidate will join AIU's Global Business program and contribute to undergraduate teaching, scholarly research, student advising, and university service.

AIU offers an undergraduate curriculum with advanced programs in Global Business, Global Studies, and Global Connectivity. All courses at AIU are taught in English.

Teaching Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Teach undergraduate courses in Management, Entrepreneurship, and introductory-level Accounting
• Supervise one seminar
• Carry a teaching load of 18 credits per year
• Advise individual undergraduate students

Specific teaching assignments will be determined in consultation with the program supervisor and will take the successful candidate's areas of expertise into consideration.

Research and Service Responsibilities

In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to:

• Engage in scholarly research leading to presentation and publication
• Participate in service to the university, program, and community
• Collaborate with faculty and staff on program development

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have:

• A Ph.D. in a related field or commensurate depth of professional experience
• If the Ph.D. is expected, documentation showing the anticipated date of conferral
• Teaching experience in Management, Accounting and/or Entrepreneurship
• Scholarly achievements in a related field
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to teach at a high level in English
• Business-level fluency in Japanese
• A commitment to liberal arts education and the AIU Mission Statement

Desired Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with:

• Practitioner experience in business, particularly in Management and/or Entrepreneurship
• Experience managing relationships with external stakeholders
• Experience working in multicultural and multi-ethnic environments
• Experience living or working in Japan and familiarity with Japanese culture
