About the Position

The Department of Economics at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invites applications for a Full Professor of Economics position. The appointment will begin in August 2027, during the Fall semester of the 2027–2028 academic year.

AUB welcomes applications from scholars across all fields of economics. The Department has a particular interest in candidates with expertise in finance and development economics.

The successful candidate will have a strong international research record. Research that examines important economic and development issues in the Middle East, Africa, and the wider global economy is especially valued.

About the American University of Beirut

Founded in 1866, AUB is a teaching-centered research university based on the American liberal arts model of higher education.

Research and Teaching

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active and internationally recognized research program.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting high-quality research in economics
  • Publishing in leading peer-reviewed academic journals
  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate economics courses
  • Supervising graduate students
  • Supporting curriculum development
  • Contributing to the Department's research output and international visibility
  • Taking part in professional and academic service
  • Supporting the broader academic mission of AUB

The teaching load is four courses per year.

All courses are taught in English.

Areas of Interest

Preference will be given to scholars working in areas such as:

  • Finance

Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Hold a PhD in Economics
  • Qualify for appointment at the rank of full professor by the start date
  • Have a distinguished and internationally recognized research profile
  • Show sustained publication in leading, highly ranked peer-reviewed journals
  • Demonstrate excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching
  • Have a strong commitment to scholarly research
  • Show an active record of academic and professional service
  • Be prepared to contribute to graduate supervision and curriculum development
