Faculty – Business (Actuarial Science) | HCT

Position Overview

Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) is seeking a full-time Faculty member in Business (Actuarial Science) in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The role involves teaching general faculty subjects and at least two specific areas within the assigned program or discipline. Instruction takes place in a student-centered, second-language learning environment that respects students, their culture, and their traditions.

Faculty members are also expected to contribute to applied research, student advising, curriculum development, academic administration, institutional service, and College and community activities.

Teaching and Assessment Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Teach courses using a practical, applied approach aligned with course syllabi and program goals.
• Teach general faculty subjects and at least two specific areas within the assigned program or discipline.
• Use educational technology and innovative instructional methods to support effective learning.
• Apply teaching strategies appropriate for a second-language learning environment.
• Provide students with continuous feedback through tests, projects, assignments, and other assessment methods.
• Provide individual assistance to students and address student issues in coordination with the program supervisor and other College personnel as required.
• Monitor student progress and take appropriate action to support student success.
• Evaluate students and update grades in a timely manner.
• Contribute to question banks and coursework assessments as requested.
• Ensure student learning outcomes align with applicable accrediting agency standards.
• Explain HCT's definition of academic dishonesty, academic misconduct, and related disciplinary measures to students.
• Maintain a teaching and learning environment sensitive to the cultural heritage of HCT students.

Student Advising and Mentoring

Faculty responsibilities include:

• Serving as a student advisor as assigned.
• Providing recommendations for at-risk student action plans when required.
• Supporting and mentoring students during internships and work placements.
• Maintaining regular office hours to advise and assist students.
• Monitoring student progress and supporting student success.

Research Responsibilities

Faculty members are expected to:

• Conduct applied research relevant to the Faculty's interests and the national innovation agenda and its targeted priority sectors.
• Participate in conferences.
• Mentor student research.

Service Responsibilities

The position includes service to HCT and the wider community through activities such as:

• Serving on Faculty, program, campus, and/or system-wide committees.
• Sponsoring or advising student groups and activities.
• Serving industry, the community, and the region.
• Participating in academic and extracurricular events at the College and within the community.
• Contributing to the implementation of HCT's system-wide strategy.
• Assisting with the development and preservation of system-wide and Faculty/Division-specific policies.

Administrative and Academic Responsibilities

The successful candidate will also:

• Ensure teaching facilities, equipment, and supplies are maintained in good working order, where applicable.
• Prepare electronic Course Assessment Files (eCAF) and Course Assessment Reports (CAR) for courses taught.
• Handle at least one system-wide course management responsibility covering content management, assessment development, course evaluation, and review.
• Contribute to continuous improvement in teaching, learning, assessment, and quality assurance under the HCT Program Continuous Improvement Framework.
• Participate in course and curriculum revisions.
• Invigilate internal and externally administered assessments as assigned.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

Leadership Responsibilities

Faculty members are expected to:

• Coach and mentor subordinates on a regular basis.
• Contribute effectively and efficiently to the recruitment and development of UAE Nationals.
• Support organizational resilience by promoting and communicating resilience practices and procedures.
• Help develop approaches for identifying and cultivating high-quality organizational resilience leaders, individual contributors, and teams.

Workload

Full-time faculty are required to complete a minimum of 36.5 working hours per week.

Workdays are normally Monday through Friday, with some system-wide assignments on Saturdays, such as FWA exams and MOE exams.

The general faculty teaching workload is:

• Fall semester: 15 credit hours
• Spring semester: 15 credit hours

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the applicable academic and professional requirements. The posting specifies the following qualification pathways:

• A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline, where applicable; or
• A Master's degree and a professional certification relevant to the discipline, with 5 years of teaching and industry experience; or
• A Bachelor's degree may be considered for candidates with extensive industry experience and industry certification, according to the discipline requirements.
• Appropriate academic professional qualifications are required as applicable.

Experience

Candidates should have:

• A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in the relevant discipline.
• Experience developing course curricula according to accreditation and international standards.
• Experience incorporating educational technology into curricula and instructional strategies.

A minimum of 3 years of relevant industry experience is preferred.
