Position Overview

Woosong University invites applications for two full-time, non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Hospitality Management positions in its Department of Hospitality Management in Daejeon, South Korea.

The university seeks applicants who combine academic preparation with relevant industry experience and can connect hospitality management theory with professional practice.

Successful candidates will teach across areas such as hotel operations, tourism, service management, and hospitality business. They will also advise and mentor students preparing for careers in the international hospitality industry.

About the Department

Woosong University's hospitality program prepares students for careers in the hotel and tourism industries and related sectors, including aviation, food and beverage, retail, and service management.

The curriculum combines management theory, practical learning, and digital technologies to help students develop knowledge and operational skills relevant to a changing hospitality industry. Interaction among faculty and students from different national backgrounds also supports intercultural communication and an international perspective.

These positions provide an opportunity for faculty to bring industry experience into the classroom and help students connect academic learning with hospitality operations and management practice.

Responsibilities

Successful candidates will:

  • Teach 15 credit hours per semester.
  • Develop and update course materials to maintain academic rigor and relevance to industry practice.
  • Provide academic advising, career guidance, and mentorship to students.
  • Participate in curriculum development, program assessment, and accreditation activities.
  • Contribute to departmental and university committees, academic events, and student organizations.
  • Support the department and university through service activities.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the department chair or dean.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following two qualification pathways:

  • An earned doctoral degree in Hotel Management or Tourism Management, together with at least three years of relevant industry experience; or
  • A master's degree in Hotel Management or Tourism Management, together with at least ten years of relevant industry experience.

Applicants must also demonstrate English proficiency sufficient for teaching and academic communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Practical hotel management experience in a senior role, such as General Manager, Deputy General Manager, or Director.

Final course assignments will be determined by departmental needs.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Annual salary: KRW 50,000,000–70,000,000 before tax, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Exceptional candidates may be considered for a higher salary.
  • Housing: Faculty housing may be provided, subject to availability.
  • Relocation support: Round-trip economy-class airfare reimbursement for faculty hired from outside the Republic of Korea.
  • Settlement allowance: KRW 100,000 per day for up to 15 days of early arrival before the appointment start date.
  • Vacation: 20 paid working days of annual leave per year.
  • Insurance and pension: Enrollment in Korean National Health Insurance and the Private School Teachers' Pension.

Publication Incentives

Publication-based incentive payments are available in accordance with university policy. For single-author papers, the stated rates are:

  • Scopus-indexed journal: KRW 5,000,000 per paper.
  • SCI-indexed journal: KRW 5,000,000 per paper.
  • KCI-indexed journal: KRW 3,000,000 for the first paper in a year and KRW 2,000,000 for each subsequent paper, subject to a total annual cap of KRW 7,000,000 for KCI publication incentives.

For multi-author papers, payments are allocated proportionally in accordance with university policy.
