The Finance Department at the Leavey School of Business, Santa Clara University, invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor position in Finance, commencing Fall 2025. This position offers renewable three-year contracts contingent on performance, program needs, and funding availability.

Position Overview

Primary Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will contribute to teaching, service, and professional activity as follows:

Teaching (70–85%)

  • Teach a minimum of 7 undergraduate courses per academic year (Fall, Winter, Spring quarters). Additional teaching beyond this load will be compensated.
  • Courses may include:
    • Corporate Finance
    • Applying Financial Models to Financial Data
    • Other finance-related courses aligned with departmental needs.
  • Duties include:
    • Preparing and conducting engaging and effective classes.
    • Assessing student work and providing timely, constructive feedback.
    • Developing and updating course materials to align with current market and academic trends.
    • Participating in course and program-level learning assessments.
    • Providing weekly on-campus office hours for student consultation.
    • Mentoring and advising undergraduate students.

Service (15%)

  • Participate in department, school, and university service activities, such as:
    • Serving on committees.
    • Contributing to professional organizations and activities.
    • Supporting department and campus events.
    • Performing peer evaluations for teaching reviews.

Professional Development (0–15%)

  • Engage in professional activities to maintain currency in the field, such as:
    • Presenting at conferences.
    • Attending educational events.
    • Publishing occasional scholarly or pedagogical works.
    • Practicing in a relevant professional area.

Mentorship and Promotion:
Newly appointed Assistant Teaching Professors will be assigned a mentor for guidance during their initial years at SCU. Opportunities for promotion to Associate Teaching Professor and full Teaching Professor are available, as outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Master’s degree, MBA, or closely related field with a concentration in Finance (must be completed by the start date).
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching university-level Finance courses.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or ABD in Finance or a closely related field.
  • Experience with financial modeling, corporate finance (FP&A), or data analytics.
  • CPA or CFA designation.
