Position Summary

The Department of Marketing at the Daniels College of Business invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position. The department integrates traditional and innovative marketing approaches, emphasizing marketing expertise, experiential learning, industry engagement, and global impact.

The Marketing Department offers a Bachelor’s in Marketing—one of the college’s most popular specializations—and an MS in Marketing. Class sizes typically range from 15 to 35 students. The department comprises nine full-time tenure-track faculty members and eight non-tenure-track faculty (Faculty & Staff) and is home to nationally recognized research centers such as the Consumer Insights and Business Innovation Center (CiBiC) and the Sales Leadership Center (SLC).

Essential Functions

1. Research and Scholarship

  • Publish high-quality, impactful research in leading academic journals.
  • Faculty publications have appeared in Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of International Business Studies, and other prestigious outlets.

2. Teaching Responsibilities

  • DU operates on a quarter system, with three 10-week terms (Fall, Winter, Spring).
  • First two years: Faculty will teach four courses per year with flexibility in course scheduling.
  • Post-second year: The teaching load increases to six courses per year, though active researchers typically receive a one-course release (five courses per year) along with summer research support until tenure.
  • Course subjects may include marketing analytics, consumer behavior, digital marketing, social media marketing, marketing research, and strategy. Some courses involve real-world projects with industry clients.
  • Courses may be taught at undergraduate and graduate levels using traditional, hybrid, evening, or weekend formats. Opportunities for summer and online teaching are available for additional compensation.

3. Service

  • Engage in departmental and college activities, including faculty meetings, assurance of learning, curriculum development, and student advising.
  • Assistant Professors will have limited service expectations but are encouraged to contribute to student mentorship and community engagement.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate (PhD) in Marketing or a related field from an AACSB or EQUIS-accredited institution.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in research, teaching, and service at the Assistant Professor level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong record of research publications in high-impact marketing journals.
  • Experience with diverse teaching methods and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Ability to contribute to the department’s research centers (CiBiC and SLC).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to teach using various methodologies, including experiential and project-based learning.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a collegial environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in teaching and research.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Standard office and classroom environment.
  • Faculty schedules vary based on teaching, research, and service commitments.
  • Occasional interruptions and moderate to high stress levels are expected.

Physical Activities

  • Extended periods of sitting at a computer.
  • Occasionally required to move around campus and transport materials up to 20 lbs.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $155,000 - $165,000
  • The final salary offer will be based on qualifications, budget availability, and market considerations.
